Q. What is Frontiers International?

A. Frontiers is a civic/service club composed of men and women of all segments of our community: professional, business, public service, educational, political, and lay leaders. Frontiers International, Inc., was incorporated in Ohio on December 24, 1938. Frontiers International, Springfield Club was charted on May 22, 1953 at the old Urban League Building at 15th and Monroe Street.

Q. What is the mission of Frontiers?

A. The mission of Frontiers is Advancement through Service. This mission is achieved through service to others and by harnessing the cooperative influence of community leaders and directing that influence towards solutions to major issues that are civic, social and racial.

Q. How do I become a Frontiers member?

A. To become a Frontiers member you have to be a man or woman, at least 21 years of age, express an interest in becoming a member, or be recommended by a current Frontiers member, be actively involved in the community or have a desire to become involve, and be willing to give of your time and service.

Q. How often do Frontiers meet?

A. The Springfield Club meets weekly on Fridays, at The Hilton Hotel, Manhattan Grill Room, The first Friday in September through the last Friday in June.

Q. Do Frontiers have programs for youths?

A. The Springfield Club sponsors two youth programs. The Positive Youth Development Program is for African American males in the 6th through 8th grade. And the Junior Frontiers Program is for African American males in 9th through 12th grade. The purpose and goals for the youth programs are to provide African American males with the motivation, skills, and resources to improve their decision-making skills, enhance their self-esteem, teach leadership skills, and promote scholastic achievement, community service, and good citizenship.

Q.What does it cost to be a Frontiers member?

A. Yearly dues are $150.00. A new member dues is $150.00 plus $45.00 for a membership kit for a total of $195.00. There is also a reduced dues schedule for new members between the age of 21 and 30.

Q. What else does Frontiers do besides the Martin Luther King Breakfast?

A. The Springfield Club sponsors youth programs, and Scholarship programs for graduating seniors in Sangamon County. Frontiers also provide financial and volunteer support to other civic minded and non-profit organization.
