FRONTIERS 1K SCHOLARSHIP FUND .

Frontiers International, an international service club, was founded in 1936 on the principle of "advancement through service". Frontiers International, Springfield Club was founded in 1953 and believes that this principle is achieved through service to others. We as a club are constantly reinforcing this principle within ourselves and in the Springfield community through our participation in and support of many civic-centered organizations and programs.

The purpose and goals of the Springfield Club's Positive Youth Development (PYD) and Junior Frontiers Programs is to provide African American males, grade 6 through 12, with the motivation, skills, and resources to improve their decision-making, enhance their self-esteem, teach leadership skills, and promote scholastic achievement, community service, and good citizenship. PYD was founded in 1991

In 1998 the Springfield Club began awarding scholarships. The Scholarship Program was originally designed to encourage graduates of the Junior Frontiers Program to attend college. However, the scholarships are now available to all qualified applicants, subject to fund availability. In 2004, the Springfield Club established an endowed scholarship fund at the Sangamon County Community Foundation (SCCF). SCCF connects people who care with causes that matter.

In the fall of 2005, the Springfield Club established a sub fund at SCCF called the Frontiers lK Fund. This Fund is loosely modeled after the CAN DO 4:13 Scholarship Fund in Peoria, IL. The Frontiers lK Fund will provide a guaranteed $1000.00 college scholarship to 6th graders who join our PYD Program, transition to the Junior Frontiers Program upon entering high school, and graduate from high school and,-subsequently, attend college. A maximum of 20 scholarship will be guaranteed each year. The scholarship will be good for tuition, books, and fees at a college, university, technical or vocational school.

The Springfield Club believes the Frontiers lK Fund Scholarship will be an incentive to young African American males and their families to think of education as an essential pillar of a good quality life, and as something important and beneficial to their future.
