The Springfield Junior Frontiers Club Program.
The Frontiers, International is an international organization founded in 1936 on the principle of 'advancement through service'. The Springfield Club/Frontiers, International was founded in .the mid-1950s and believes that this. principle is achieved through service to others. We as a club are constantly reinforcing this principle within ourselves and in the Springfield community through our participation in and support of many organizations and programs.
American society today, through its excesses and neglect, has put our young people, especially young black males, at risk of losing the freedoms and opportunities promised them by the Constitution. The Springfield Frontiers have determined not to sit back and allow this to happen in our community. We have committed whatever human and financial resources we have available to help our young black males realize their fullest potential. One of the vehicles we will use to do this is the Junior Frontiers Club.
Our first class of Junior Frontiersmen was made up of those young men who participated in our Positive Youth Development Program during the 1990-1991 school year.This club's membership consist primarily of young men who have been members of the Positive Youth Development Program. However, membership is open to any young black male, 9th thru 12th grade. There are several reasons for doing this.
These young men are already familiar with the Senior Club's emphasis on service to black youth; they should be aware of the social and civic expectations the Senior Club has for them; and, they are familiar with some of the Senior Club members who will be mentoring them throughout their involvement in the program.
We expect the program to be successful and anticipate expanding the program in future years by establishing additional Junior Clubs. We are excited and enthusiastic about the program and we look forward to having the young men and their families involved with the Junior Frontiers
